Hi Mate,
It's been a long time, but I'm listenning to music again; really liked that Tom York tribute to Harry Patch. I've recently been doing some family history; I've been meaning to for a while, but my mum being ill gave me a kick up the arse and so for once in my life I'm actually 'doing what I said I'd do'. Anyway, my Mums, Dads, Dad (my great grandad) was killed at the Somme on 23/10/1916 aged 36; so I'm 10 years older than he was when he died. It struck me, listenning to Tom Yorks tribute, that there is an overwhelming need for solemnity when considering those sacrifices, which TY conveys with elequence; but I wonder if the same could/should be conveyed further. I love the Julian Cope song 'China Doll'; my mum has letters from her Grandad, which kinda chime with me.
What dya think Tom?
Regards
Simon
