Posted by noelpasig i live in pasig and have been using your site for the last 5 years - i have to THANK YOU for being on the web. you have helped raise awareness and education about tropical storms to a new/higher level...salamat! TOTALLY AGREE with you - the windspeed discrepancy is too obvious. I nearly fell from my seat when the PAGASA weather section head blurted it out on the radio that Milenyo was losing strength as it crossed Laguna! I recall he was preparing for a briefing with GMA and the NDCC at that time - I hope he was not sugarcoating his report (at the expense of public safety). Am 46 years old and it is really sad that for a typhoon-prone country we are severely 'undereducated' about typhoons. To tell you frankly, my own knowledge and understanding about typhoons really started only when i got into your website. Am trying my best to educate my family and friends about tropical storm behaviour (to the extent i can) but i guess it will really take some time. The responses i get range from superficial interest to "this-guy-must-be-crazy". Anyway, i must tell you that am spreading the link to your site. I have decided this is my small way of contributing to the education of the people i care about. At some point, most people who find real value in understanding tropical storms will pay more attention to credible, complete and timely information - this should keep you going as you are the 'lone wolf' who does this for all of us today. Please keep it up! To be fair, PAGASA has improved its web reporting BUT still needs SUBSTANTIAL improvement in the areas of predicting storm behaviour and communicating warnings/updates to our people (specially on radio!)in a way that can be understood. This may not happen soon but as our people become more educated, we will find ways to challenge PAGASA even more....! best

hello mr webmaster michael

: Hi guys,
:
: It looks like our weather agency, again
: erroneously placed the intensity of MILENYO
: too low...even if the EYE becomes clearer
: and clearer - a sign of explosive
: deepening...their wind speed was still fixed
: at 130 kph!!! JTWC placed it at 115 kts,
: while JMA increased their winds surprisingly
: to 90 kts from 70 kts hours before it
: slammed into Bacon, Sorsogon and Legazpi
: City.
:
: The poor analysis of our weather agency was
: clearly evident, when MILENYO was over
: Lucena-San Pablo Area, they downgraded it to
: a storm!!! My goodness! how can they
: downgrade this typhoon - the eyewall's still
: intact when it passed over NCR! Nobody can
: be fooled, the overturning of 10-wheeler
: trucks, the downed billboards across EDSA
: and SLEX, the 27 downed NAPOCOR Power Lines
: across Quezon and Bicol - can easily say
: that MILENYO was really a TYPHOON either
: Category 2 or 3 in the Saffir-Simpson Scale.
: JTWC remained robust that they placed it at
: 105 kts (Category 3) while JMA was at 70
: kts...a far cry from PAGASA's 110 kph!!!
:
: All I can say...HELP US LORD!!!
:
: Kindly check out this article regarding
: their puzzlement on MILENYO - for me its
: very NORMAL!!!

:
: The question is: Are they professionals???
:
: GOOD JOB & CONGRATULATIONS goes to the
: guys at JTWC and JMA! They're the best!
