Posted by Dominic on August 12, 2007, 5:47 pm the Philippines is the most typhoon visited country in the world with an average of 20 typhoons every year. Half (50%) of the country's rainfall depends on typhoons, so whether we like it or not...WE NEED THEM...to sustain our crops, to fill our dams, to relieve pollutants in our atmosphere, to help cool down searing temperatures. REMING'S deadly landslides in Albay last Dec.2006 are caused by a lot of factors.Volcanic material along Mayon's slopes were already saturated with rains of Milenyo earlier, so it just all went off when Reming made it more wet. People living along the slopes of Mayon ahould be aware that they are always prone to lahars and landslides because they live along an active volcano. A similar incident happend in 1814 after Mayon erupted. the belfry of the Cagsawa church and ruins are the evidences. The typhoon was way too powerful that it broke records in wind speed, so humans were no match for it.PAGASA lacks manpower (some of them are too old, or too ignorant, or too intelligent), lacks modern facilities, and lack the enthusiasm in typhoon forecasting. The weather reports flashed on TV news around the country are all mediocres and misconceptions. ABS-CBN's TV Patrol World - they made the weather report into a trivia and entertainment-type show. The weather reporter does not know where to point the places and the location in the so-called "satellite picture". he needs a crash course on chart, satellite map and weather map reading. He only reads PAGASA's report of makes flowery words into it to sound original. The satellite picture is labeled all wrong, always. The satellite picture of the typhoon was superimposed with a picture of a white-colored rotating disk like whipped cream. this doesnt show viewers the true picture and extent of the typhoon. Dapat una satellite picture na actual (animated), then mag switch sa animated na map na may illustrations ng trajectory ng bagyo and all those frontal systems (tulad sa CNN at BBC) GMA's 24 Oras and Saksi - computer generated lahat so its not that accurate where the typhoon is and you can't see the cloud cover. The map is not labeled well it is only but right that the Philippines should be advanced in typhoon info, forecasting and development as to Japan and California with earthquakes. Wala...kulelat lagi tayo...authorities of the Philippines could not explain it well to the public, so who trusts them? Thats why hanggang ngayon Filipno's still believe in all those old-wives tales and "kuwento ng matatanda" about the weather and typhoons. naunahan pa tayo nga Vietnam, China at Japan sa typhoon forecasting.

There are still important facts that Filipinos should be aware of the typhoons. Please read this before pointing fingers on who's to blame.
