One doesn't apply the use of Reason into the transcendental presence of the self-experiencing of the World. That's all it is, Chris. For fear of materialism which never solves the transcendental values we hold dearly we can run into denying the applied virtue in ordinary responsible questioning of the world's knowledge.
Instead, to Sartre, 'philosophies' were the course for the arbitrary thinker's activity.
Don't sell yourself short of the true transcendent.
