Cu-Ni Pipe welding

Need some basics on welding copper nickle pipe: The pipe is used as firewater piping on off shore production platforms. Is pre heating required? Is post heating required? What type of electrode is used? Is T.I.G the normal process or can this pipe be "stick welded"? Is hardness in the weld an issue?
