Posted by Rick For Carbon Steel to Stainless in the 300 series such as 304, 316 etc a 309 stainless rod is recommended, although a 308, 316 electrode will work fine as well. If it is a thicker section, butter the mild steel side of the joint first, then you closing weld will be stainless on stainless. Good Luck!
