I would like to buy my husband a welder for Christmas this year but haven't quite decided which would be the best for him. He has no previous welding experience, although he is a fast learner. I've ordered him some books to learn, but still need to get the welder! He has 2 cars he's wanting to fix up and 'hot rod' them to race, so he'd be welding steel doing body work probably. I don't think he'd weld anything thicker than 1/4". I've been told MIG would be best for a less expensive and eaiser to learn route. I'm looking for one below $500 so he can learn and later decide if he needs anything with more power. After reading another post on here, I'm gravitating towards the Clarke 180EN which would be around $400 shippped from a site online. Any help?? Thanks!
