I ran about 80 Linear feet of #10 AWG wire to my garage. I hooked off of a 220VAC breaker rated for 30amps. #10 is rated for 30 amps in the NEC.
My welder is a Chicago-Electric rated for input 220V, single phase of 24 amps max. So 30 amps is fine. It runs great. I ran the wire under my house in the crawl space and tacked it to the joists and then along the wall to my outlet near the garage door for the welder. Ideally you should use flex conduit to protect the conductors but I was lazy. My wire is out of the way and up high so no one will hit it.
