I am wondering if anyone can tell me where I can purchase thermite or thermit powder in Canada or British Columbia. We are a small machine shop in Port Coquitlam and do some work for CP Rail and are interested in developing some thermite related products. I have not found anything on the internet so far, nor any of the local welding supply shops carry it. I realize what it is made of and have experimented with making my own out of Al and FeO2 but haven't had any success due to the rapid oxidation of the powdered Al. Perhaps someone has a technique for preparing the Al in an effective manner. My problem has not been the ignition as I have found that Potassium Permanganate and a small amount of Glycerin works well to achieve the required ignition temperature. Thank you in advance for any and all information.
