My welding class has been discussing which should be cut off first, the Oxygen or the Acetylene? Our instructor was taught to always shut off the Acetylene first since it is more dangerous, and you don't want it to accidentally leak back into the Oxygen line where it could become explosive. But our new books says that you should cut off the Oxygen first because it is better for the torch.
What are the pros and cons of shutting down the Oxygen cylinde first?
What are the pros and cons of shutting down the Acetylene cylinder first?
What are the recommend procedures?
I posted this question in Yahoo Answers, but their closest cataglory is: Home > Cars & Transportation > Maintenance & Repairs : http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091003082042AA5Fhsb&r=w
My teacher also says he has always been told to turn off the Acetylene first, but our new school books say to cut the Oxygen first so that the Acetylene will clean out the torch. According to the new manuals that will keep them from making that poping noise. I haven't been been told the pros and cons of shutting down either tank first or recieve any recommend procedures yet.
If anyone can shed some light on this, please answer my question at: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091003082042AA5Fhsb&r=w
