Weld Symbol for concave fillet
Posted by Donald Bramble on 5/12/2016, 9:52 am
I understand that the weld symbol for a concave contoured fillet weld means that the concave weld symbol states to violate the throat for that fillet weld. If the full throat length is required to be maintained, the leg length on the symbol must be extended and the curve radius given to get the needed throat.
I have been challenged on this. It is stated that when a concave fillet weld is required, the welder must calculate and add the additional leg beyond that specified in the symbol, to produce a full throat length of a fillet weld in the symbol without addition of the concave contour.
I cannot find documentation supporting my position
