kia ora! Tumonako the best place to find your whanau is to first know your hapu, tribe and where they originated from like your parents, grandprts, and so on. when you have this then i found that it was best to go to your library if you are in Tamaki Makaurau go to the Ak. city library. there is a book called 'Tainui'. or find out where does the name Heremaia originated. This is a good start. in the Ak. library (2nd floor)and the Ak Uinversity library there is a computer there and you can type in history of Waikato etc. and it will bring up the history of the area you are looking for all Maori history has some whakapapa in them and that is where i found most of my whakapapa. I can go right back to the beginning of time to 'Io' Maori name for 'God'. I also found that to organise a 'whanau hui' as well there you will get heaps of information from the whanau.
