Kia Ora Koutou,
My G.Grandfather Tom (Thomas John Sharpe) was roughly about 5 years old when when a lady Called Mrs Mary Moanson became his gaurdian in Sydney NSW in late 1800's, (1885-1900). He is recorded as having a sister called Ruth Williams, not Mrs so we assume she was not married.
I am trying to whakapapa back from Tom. Family lore is that he is Kai / Ngai Tahu from from Banks Peninsula. I know there are Williams at Koukourarata, (Port Levy) and Wairewa, (Little River).
I assume that due to the age of his being placed in some ones care that his first name is, (or a transliteration of), the one he was given at birth.
We are unsure where the names Williams and Sharpe fit in. All documents that should have parents names are listed as unknown and there is not any birth certificate /record for him I can find at the moment.(I will keep looking).
He married Ida May Tidyman and they lived inner Sydney .
I know it is a long shot but does anybody know of any Ngai/Kai Tahu who where in Australia in the late 1800's?
Associated Surnames; Williams, Moanson, Sharpe and possibly Hokaia? Hohaia or something sounding similar.
