I was looking to find out more about their history...where they lived, who their parents were etc.
I have found a book called Irihapeti McKay (Joyce) written by Rex and Adriene Evans on behalf of the McKay family reunion committee which has added a lot more family detail for me so I now have a lot more information than I originally had.Unfortunately the Campbell branch of the family declined to contribute to the book which is disappointing but there is now no one left to ask why they made that decision.
Are you also descended from Irihapeti Te Paea and John Horton McKay?
I think that I am comfortable with the family history that I have back to them but things get a bit murky after that. I have been told that Irihapeti was King Tawhio's daughter and then another source said that no she wasnt so I am not sure what to believe.
