The area reeked of death, corpses and spirits mixing to frighten away the unwary visitor. It was also full of loss and sadness, the realization of departure. All in all, it did not amount to a scenic destination for a late winter stroll. Therefore the two wolves were there for one of three reasons: they were actually dead (this prospect sent a shiver of fear tinged with excitement down the young wolf's spine), they were seeking adventure like herself, or they were searching for something lost. What ever their purpose, the pair clearly had not expected disturbance. A smile crept over Arsenal’s face, the effect being less of joy and more of lunacy. She slipped back a few paces into the shadow of a tree, pressed her body as close to the ground as possible, and attempted to blend in with the dirt. Then, speaking with as much volume as her still-small body could muster, she called out, “Tsukanoma, welcome to the land of prayers, where the dieing come to die, the morning comes to mourn, and a living is hard to come by! I am the protector of these lands! What is your business here?!” She suppressed a snicker and waited for a reply.

Alert to the motions of her subjects, Arsenal realized she had been discovered by the tensing of Mirai's muscles. Her ears caught the murmur of the other wolf's name: Tsukanoma. They also picked up the summons, carrying with it a hint of threat. Arsenal, her upbringing causing within her a sense of arrant disrespect for authority, was undaunted by the tone of this elder wolf and unwilling to pass up an opportunity for adventure.
