The cat-faced griffin was tempted to try to push once more to his feet, but the cold that had seeped into his flesh made the effort unbearable. He gave up the attempt, only to have the trees vanish, and suddenly the reason for the sudden appearance of the woods became clear. A singlis-rhaniqin. The olive eyes of the cat-faced griffin looked up to see the glowing red glare of the mythical killer, holding the gaze for a moment. How odd that death should come in flesh coloured such a pleasing pink hue. He made no attempt to flee, no attempt to run...such would have been futile. There was no fear in Felix's gaze, only a quiet sorrow and acceptance, and beneath that, perhaps, a sliver of gratitude. At least, death would come quickly. He would not linger here, feeling his body shut down piece by piece, until finally his mind followed suit. The cat-faced griffin lay his head back down upon his paws and closed his eyes, as the red-eyed beast exercised the power that was unique to her kind. He felt her magicks wash over him, consciousness slowly slipping away, his last breath exhaled from his body. The chill in his body was replaced by a calm warmth not unlike that he had felt in his last den, and his final thought was of Shadow's Rage, the only creature who had managed to put a chink in the armour in had so carefully surrounded himself with through the years. And then there was only the peace of death, and an empty carcass where Felix had lain.

Where once there had been only a few scattered trees dotting the open landscape, suddenly it seemed as if a forest had sprung forth in mere moments. Slowly, the aged cat-faced griffin lifted his head, the tip of his tail flicking against the ground. Was this death? Or perhaps some hallucination brought about by his mind as slowly his body began to fail him?
