Black Rain had always wondered what it would be like when he died, and now he regretted knowing. Sure, he no longer had any pain or hunger... or any of those mortal trifles, but damn! Did it have to be so difficult to figure this stuff out? First of all, it took three months just to get out of the astral plane.. THAT was annoying. Stuck in this see of pure white with no body, just a mind. Sometimes it felt like he was moving, but everything was the same.. Just white. Everything was just white. It reminded him of one of the more severe blizzards that had gone through the Ice Pack lands a few years ago, only it wasn't cold.. or wet.. Actually, it wasn't anything. At all... Just b l a n k.
And what was even more odd was the fact that he could hear voices.. Some where strange, like really strange... Like, undescribably strange. Others were depressingly familiar. The one thing they all had in common was the fact that they were talking to him. So far, the only ones he'd really recognized were the voices of his children. Solar Shadow tried talking to him every night. Her voice was often shaky, and he could imagine her in tears, something he'd never seen in Sol before. Rei spoke to him sometimes, but more just like an update of her life. Though it was more pleasant than hearing Sol cry, he wished he could be there with her. Especially seeing as she'd met a male she liked. And then there was Nastrix. The little tyke was doing just fine, a little depressed, but apparently he managed. But it was the fact that he couldn't be there, he couldn't take part in all of this and especially the fact that he'd been gone during Nastrix's puppyhood, it frustrated him. He knew there was a way to visit the physical plane, he knew because he'd seen spirits of his friends before. But how had they done it? It took him forever to even SEE the other plane.
That was fun.. It took a lot of brain power and a strong will to see his family again. But he'd managed, he was there even now. But there were still problems. He could see them and hear them now, but they couldn't see or hear him. What a pain it was trying to figure all of this out! Out of sheer determination, Black Rain found his way to the Prayer part of Wolf Mountain in hopes of meeting another spirit that could possibly tell him how it's done. So far, he hadn't seen another soul in this place.
And just when the brute was getting desperately lonely, he heard his name once more. This time from a close friend, a brother. Seg, he wondered when he'd hear from him. Black Rain knew his alpha often came to these parts to talk with those who'd passed on. But what good was it now? He couldn't even talk to his alpha, not in this state!
The black wolf jogged over to his old friend, translucent body completely invisible to the wolf. "Yeah, I'm here, Seg," he said hopelessly. "If only I knew how to show you.."
Black Rain let out a growl of frustration. He sad with a heavy sigh, ears flicking back and forth as he thought. I don't get it... The brute stared at Seg, head tilted to the side. In the process of trying to think of a way to make it all work, he managed to space out. Stupid ADHD, it always had a bad habit of taking affect when he was trying to concentrate.
Suddenly, a strange sensation came to the black brute. The fact that any sensation at all came shocked him. "Whoa!" Black Rain shook his head to rid him of his stupor, realizing that somehow, he could feel. Shaking his head again, he flexed his paws, feeling the dirt shift underneath him. No way...?
"Seg?" he called out softly, hoping against hope that it had finally worked. Go figure if it did. All this time he'd been concentrating on getting here, the moment he spaced out it happened. "Seg.. can.. can you hear me?"
