He hadn't been through this particular place before.
Though, that really wasn't saying much, for Sarge had only recently come to this land, and was still trying to familiarize himself with the strange landscapes and odd smells. The rather burnt odor the air seemed to hold was particularly odd...it reminded him vaguely of gunpowder, yet it wasn't. Quite strange.
He had come to the prayer grounds for no particular reason beyond the fact that his paws had carried him here, and his terribly empty belly compelled him to keep wandering, hoping to scavenge a morsel here or there to keep himself alive. But meals were few and far between in this land, and the dog could catch no smells that spoke of food. His shoulder ached softly, and he knew he would need to rest it soon, but not yet. No, right now he would continue to search for anything he might find to ease the terrible hunger his empty belly plagued him with.
The german shepherd was painfully thin, his ribs visible clearly through his black and tan coat, but beyond that clear indication of slow starvation, he was typical for his breed, with a downsloping back to low set hindquarters, black fur shadowing his muzzle and creating a 'saddle' on his back. A plain brown collar about his neck indicated plainly that he had once had a life far removed from this one...but he had left that behind some time ago.
A soft sound reached his ears, and the german shepherd paused in his steps, his senses suddenly alert. There, again, he heard it...a clear sound of distress. It took him but a moment to pinpoint its direction, and he set off toward it, until he came upon the wolf laying upon the earth, crying in the manner of one who was trying to keep from doing so.
Sarge hesitated a moment, before speaking softly. "Ma'am?" His soft tenor voice held genuine concern, for though he had left his vocation far behind him, it was in his very nature to try and help those in need. Even his current surroundings, far from everything he had once known, did not change the core facets of his being.
"Ma'am? Are you okay?" He asked quietly, and the concern in his voice was echoed in his chocolate eyes. Yet something else rested behind that liquid gaze as well...a definate wariness...as if the wolf before him was potentially a viper, laying in the grass, ready to strike.
