A shallow bay on a remote coastline in the Gulf of Alaska is an important stopover for migrating shorebirds. To learn more about the birds that refuel there and what they feed on, wildlife biologist Jenell Larsen Tempel developed a research project that provided challenges, bears, storms and ongoing adjustments. Stalking Shorebirds on Alaska’s Remote Outer Coast offers a look at her muddy and rewarding work in Alaska Fish and Wildlife News.
Alaskans also do some bird stalking through the Alaskans Afield program, but with different intentions. The program offers a variety of outdoor skills classes throughout the year - and possibly in your town.
