In reviewing earthquake data this morning, the 740pm earthquake SE of Nikolai from Wednesday night is no longer listed on the UAF Alaska Earthquake Center Website.
According to an NWS technician, What likely happened is that the automated system thought there were multiple earthquakes (sensors are not as dense there than in other parts of the state, and some of the ones that are there aren’t working). A seismologist has reviewed the earthquake and now there is only 1 event, a M5.2 located approximately 23 miles west of McGrath, or 9 miles SW of Takotna.
Looking at data this morning, we do see something interesting. The original Tearthquake SW of Takotna is sitll listed, at M5.2 however there were two more in the vicinity last night. a M3.5 7 miles NW of Takotna at 10pm and a M3.2 at 1047pm that was 10 mw W of Takotna. Thrre was a M2.9 14 miles NE of Telida at 1140pm as well.
