Youth Interns
Our youth interns are learning about wildlife movements with trail cams. This afternoon they will be going through sd cards and printing and framing some of the top photos.
Their funding goes from last November through this month, and the program will be wrapping up. They have learned about animal tracking, science and technology, trail cams, photography and photo printing. We recently acquired a photo printer through a grant, and are excited to have the capacity to now print pictures!
National Archery in Schools Program
The NASP archery season wrapped up last week with completion of the state tournaments. Great job students who participated and attended practices over the winter months.
Snowshoeing and Photography Kids outings
Over the winter a group of students and I went snowshoeing and they learned about outdoor photography. We will be meeting up later this month to go through the photos and print and frame the top choices. Many thanks to MNVC for lending us snowshoes!
McGrath Stem Club
Now that archery season has come to a close, we will be ramping back up with Stem club-our fish and wildlife related science and tech club for middle and high school students. Our next club meeting is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday, March 12th. We will be learning how to solve the Rubix cube using algorithms...and learning what the heck an algorithm is and how they show up all around us in nature.
Many thanks to all of our community supporters: McGrath School, MNVC, McGrath Community Library, the Museum, AC, NP, ADFG, Ksko and our Elders, community members and others for all of your support. You help make things happen at the refuge, whether it be funding help for a printer, moose bone project, SC help, equipment loans, use of facilities and local knowledge sharing and much more.
