On June 4, the Alaska Department of Fish & Game announced Emergency Order #3-S-WR-02-25 to implement the front-end closure in Subsistence Sections 4 and 5 (from Aniak to the headwaters).
Starting Monday, June 9, 2025, until further notice, from Aniak to the headwaters and in state waters of the Aniak River:
-Subsistence fishing with gillnets (set and drift) is closed.
-Subsistence fishing with hook and line for Chinook salmon is closed.
-Subsistence fishing with fish wheels, dip nets, and beach seines is allowed, but any Chinook salmon caught must be returned to the water alive. Additionally, fish wheels must have a live box and chute, and must be checked at least every 6 hours.
The Kuskokwim River Salmon Management Working Group will meet Wednesday, June 11 at 10:00 AM to review in-season assessment data and determine fishing periods after this closure. The Working Group meeting is open to the public.
