The past 2 to 3 weeks we have had an active storm cycle. A high pressure in the Gulf of Alaska had steered every new low pressure system into the Bering Sea, and then into the Western Interior. These systems fueled with sub-tropical moisture had dropped multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall across much of the Western Interior. McGrath is already 1.3 inches above the average rainfall totals for the first 8 days in August.
This week we will see more rounds of spotty moderate rain showers as an Arctic low will develop over the Western Interior. This low pressure will be paired with moisture being brought in from the Gulf of Alaska, bringing us our rain chances through the week. Towards the end of the week, we can expect a shot of arctic air cooling down much of Northern Alaska.
