The winter of 1991 Nestor and Mike Fleagle found a Great Snowy Owl on the road up to Harris Hill. It was in distress, so they threw a blanket over it and brought it to our house and called Jack who determined that the beautiful bird was starving. He took it home to his basement and fed it mice until it was strong enough to be released back into the wild. My girls got to see the bird up close. This is a nice memory I have of Jack. He was well liked and respected in this community. Rest in peace Jack. My condolences to Cassie and his wife. The museum has copies of the book he wrote about his life and stories of his time in McGrath make a fun read!
