John Oliver & Last Week Tonight with John Oliver did this incredibly smart, thoughtful segment on the importance of public media — what we provide that no one else can — and it’s already making ripples all the way out here in the Western Interior.
In the last couple of days, KSKO has gotten four or five merch orders from complete strangers… one in Georgia, two in NYC, and one in Wisconsin. I emailed them all asking how they even found us, and one woman — an agency director on Madison Avenue in the HEART of New York City — said she saw John Oliver’s segment, clicked through to the “adopt a public radio station” link, and ended up right here with us.
She told me:
“I hope others will follow suit. Best of luck and thanks for all you do!”
You ever read something that stops you in your tracks at 6:30 in the morning?
Yeah… that did it.
I’m guessing those other far-flung orders came the same way — people seeing the stations most in need and choosing to support a tiny but mighty public radio station in Alaska.
Wow. Just… wow. What a way to start the day!
And to everyone out there discovering us because of that segment: THANK YOU. You have no idea how much it means.

KSKO Program Director
