Hi Neighbors,
The teams should start coming in later this afternoon and evening! Here is all the information I have at this time. Hopefully this will make everyone’s week run a little smoother. Please be patient with us as we make the transition back to the Capt. Snow building.
Here is the updated checkpoint map. Being back at the city building is new for some of us and we appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks from the transition. Here is what we have worked out so far:
WATER ACCESS: If you have a dry cabin or otherwise use the water access at the N. end of the city bldg. please call ahead to let us know you are coming. The number to call is 907-720-5470. One of the communications team or the lead will answer and will arrange for an escort to the water point. Please use E Street to River Road, someone will meet you at the corner to escort you.
RIVER ROAD: The teams will be coming up the river ramp onto River Road at the corner by the bench at the rock dock. River Road will be closed to motorized vehicles just East of F St and E Street. Vehicles will be sharing River Road with the dog teams up to the point just East of F Street. We ask you to please pull to the side and wait for the dog team to reach the checkpoint if they are on the road.
F STREET: Will be closed near Chad and Mikki’s house. This will provide parking for any community people who want to come hang out in the city conference room to talk to the mushers, deliver food, use the washeteria or showers.
CITY CONFERENCE ROOM: The conference room is open all day to anyone in the community who would like to stop by to say hello, meet any mushers who are around, check on team locations or drop off food.
FOOD: We encourage anyone who wants to bring food to do so. We have so many good cooks and bakers in our community they may not want to leave.
COOKS: There is some food provided for the mushers and volunteers at the city conference room that needs to be cooked. The food can be cooked at the city conference room, or you can come pick up some food, take it home to cook it and bring it back. We are looking for local volunteers to do the cooking. There is a white board in the conference room to sign up for a day and time, or you can call Barb Deardorff at 907-574-0568 or Megan Funk at 907-758-2890.
Again, thanks to everyone for sharing information with me so we can make this a great community event! See you there.
