I've been living outside the UK for more than half my life and have been monitoring the development of this perceived 'slippage' (which apparently is not a slippage) from afar. I would probably be inured, but have also been linguistically sensitised by Dutch abuses such as the over-use of "als", which we won't get into here.
Probably best to get on with worrying about IS rather than 'is'.
