First night of the Proms
Posted by Geoff Diggines on July 15, 2017, 9:29 am
Last night I settled down to hear/see the first night of the Proms. After a quite competent reading of the Beethoven 3rd Piano Concerto from Igor Levit we were treated to Cambridge educated Katie Derham's sycophantic spin on the performance. With a kind of fixed substitute for a smile she told us how 'sensitive' Levit's playing was, how 'breathtaking' how 'profound 'how he is globally venerated, how he is the embodiment of Beethoven, etc, etc, I was waiting to hear if this 'deity' regularly walks on water! But by then I switched channels. Is there any way to listen to the Proms without this fawning tosh??
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
