Schaller tells me that he has arranged the quintet more for a "classical" orchestra wanting to keep the character of chamber music but also to demonstrate the symphonic aspects of Bruckner's largest chamber music work. He started with the Adagio and later the other movements also orchestrating the second Scherzo too and put it in the quintet - as it was usual some time ago in older performances.
