As it happens, I have not yet been so moved to request a disc to be considered 'recommended'. Were I to do so it would be because for me at that moment this recording/performance/music engaged me. As it happens, I reviewed both of the Stanford discs and thought they were very fine achievements indeed. I am sure the quartet themselves would say that over time and with greater familiarity they would find even more musical riches but that should not diminish their achievement here. The logical conclusion of the argument "it will be better in the future " is don't be first and do it later - neither of which sets a very questing agenda.
My feeling is that regular visitors to this site are likely to develop a sense of reviewers they relate to and others they don't. So if one particular reviewer suggests a recommended status it might well be that chimes with some readers.
I quite like the recommended flag - its a quick and easy way to see that something has been considered worthy of consideration. For sure after that, there are some artists and some composers who could be awarded every rosette and recommendation under the sun and I still wouldn't buy their discs! (Mr Currentzis take a bow)
