Re: Last place among over 200 Bruckner 4ths?
Yet it's strange how much controversy surrounds that Bohm VPO Bruckner 4, Rob; for many he is simply a kapellmeisterish time-beater in this symphony and has no gift for Bruckner and the sound is thick and homogeneous. Responses range from "sublime" to "routine". I must admit that I gave mine away years ago and I can't exactly remember why, but it must have been because I had - as indeed I have now - far too many versions which I find superior in terms of both sound and performance; I personally favour Karajan, Celibidache, Tennstedt live with the LPO, Schaller, Suitner and, unexpectedly, Thielemann with the Dresdners. But, de gustibus and all that...
