Re: Sibelius N.Jarvi
While I agree with Dieter about Neeme Järvi - and would indeed extend the observation of dullness in recordings to his son Paavo - I think Dieter is being unfair to Neville Marriner. While I admit that he almost inevitably recorded some duds and too much workaday stuff over so long a career at the head of the go-to outfit for recording companies, I esteem highly a number of his best recordings, such as these favourites:
Bach: Art of the Fugue; B minor Mass; Handel - Concerti Grossi, Jephtha; Mozart: Gran Partita; Requiem; Le nozze di Figaro; Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez; Verdi - Oberto; Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending; Vivaldi - Gloria - and there are undoubtedly more.
So I cannot agree that he never made any great recordings.
