The publication of the vocal score for "From the Bavarian Highlands" was rejected by Novello originally - the work pre-dates Elgar's fruitfull/long-term relationship with that company. Instead it was published by Joseph Williams - apparently with some reservations themselves!
Peter Greaves wrote a very interesting monograph for the Elgar Society regarding this work and the Elgars' happy holidays in Bavaria which prompted it. Although the work itself is relatively slight it shines an interesting light on Elgar's domestic happiness at that time before he found wide-spread fame.

I must thank Nick Barnard for his interesting review of this release, but also express my regret that there hasn't yet been recorded a German-language version of this work. It would add a nicely authentic colouring, and also increase the odds of this work being paired on disc or in concert with Brahms's Liebeslieder Walzer.
