I read with delight Rob Cowan’s excellent, informative review of Eugene Ormandy (conductor) The Columbia Legacy. According to Presto’s website, it was only released on 9th April 2021, yet I’ve never been able to find a copy for sale in the UK. One or two people in the USA I know have reported similar difficulties there. This seems to be a problem with big box sets these days, once they’re gone that’s it.
A couple of years ago (2019 I think) I tried to purchase Sony’s New Music String Quartet - The Complete Columbia Album Collection (10 CDs). It, too, sold out worldwide with weeks. I’ve never been able to source a copy, and it’s never been reprinted. There are a two overpriced, as ‘rare’ new and used copies on ebay.
I fear the same will happen to the Ormandy box. I’ve place a pre-order with Amazon UK, but I don’t hold out much hope of it ever appearing.
