I would like to add my observation to this. For me, the first versions of both Bruckner 2 (1871-72) and Bruckner 3 (1873) are strongly preferred to any and all of the subsequent revisions, where the cuts damage the structure and coherency of the composer's revolutionary, and audacious, first concepts. Bruckner was ahead of his time with most of his symphonic thoughts -- never more so than with the magnificent Second and Third Symphonies.
