Gary Higginson's review on Monday review of English Choral Premieres & Rarities rightly praises the quality of the music and the music-making. However this disc includes one of the great mistakes to make it to disc (I'm speaking of the original Classico release - perhaps it ws possible to fix this for the Griffin re-release??) In Howells' "In Nomine" the wordless soprano soloist starts her part a good way below the written pitch. It 'fits' Howells' added-note harmony so without a score no-one would be any the wiser. It was only when David Hill released a version on Naxos that the error became clear. A bit of a black mark though for the original producer, conductor and singer who really should have spotted this!
