Re: Stanfordian Thoughts
Having read the fifteenth installment of this series entitled Patriotic Songs, I am compelled to say that to write an article on an Irish composer and his patriotic songs; songs written in or very soon after 1916 (including The Fair Hills of Ireland) and yet to make absolutely no reference to the Easter Rising of that year, the laying waste to his home city of Dublin by British artillery and the subsequent execution of sixteen Irish patriots by the British government nor Stanford’s reaction to all this, musical or otherwise, I find amiss to say the least.
