Classic FM has recently given us a list of the 25 'greatest conductors of all time'. Most of the entries seem fairly sensible although the diversity agenda is at work again. I am not sure if the list is in order of merit; but if it is I doubt if there would be widespread agreement on the ranking.
I must add that I am somewhat bemused by the inclusion of Berlioz and Chevalier Saint-Georges as conductors - splendid though they may have been in their own time.
