Britten: Noye's Fludde

William Hedley wonders in his review how much rapport a modern audience would have with the work, presumably because of the hymns etc. Well, I'm as heathen as they come, and still listen to the Bach cantatas almost daily. Hardly anyone, and I include performers, would ascribe to the world view of Bach, or Palestrina. One listens to it, and performs it, as music. Noye's Fludde, and Saint Nicolas, give enormous pleasure to an audience, heathens included.
