Georg Goltermann
Posted by Michael Bullivant on August 19, 2024, 10:03 pm
Did anyone remember Georg Goltermann, born 200 years ago today? I did and played his First Cello Concerto and Symphony to our Music Club this evening – from the recent Capriccio disc, C5469. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed them and wondered why the works are not better known – anyone who enjoys Schumann or Mendelssohn would surely enjoy this music too, and both works are more than worthy of the occasional outing in the concert hall. I’d much like to hear the other seven cello concertos – and more. David Barker evidently enjoyed the disc as much as I did (23 May) and I hope many more might be persuaded to investigate yet another composer who does not deserve to be forgotten!
