Re: Favorite Mahler First's?
Even on a deserted island I'd hope soon to get back to concert halls where I can listen to contemporary artists. So I'd prefer a few contrasted historic versions I remember fondly, or ones I've not heard and was recommended by knowledgeable people (like Kegel's)! Walter/NBC impressed me, but so have Boult on an Everest LP, Kletzki on HMV (in spite of a cut, if I remember correctly), and Martinon in Paris (Maestro Editions 069). Allowed one more I might take Scherchen (Westminster). Comparing those very different versions would fill many long days on that island.
