Thankyou for your comments Terence. You are quite right, that version from 1977/8 on Supraphon is very special. I should have mentioned it in my review. Beňačková was only 30 and your assessment of her voice in that era is quite correct. The set also has the considerable merit of Naděda Kniplová (Karajan's Brünnhilde) as a formidable Kostelnička. She recorded it earlier for HMV too. My copy of the Supraphon Jilek set you love is a rather scratchy LP I picked up second hand from that wonderful shop near Notting Hill Gate tube station in the mid 90s. Of course one can now hear it streamed in a great and vivid sounding CD remastering on the usual platforms. Thanks again for drawing everyone's attention to it. An aside - I too am not absolutely wedded to the Tyrrell version. Haitink wasn't too fussed either I understand!
