Re: Ralph Moore opera reviews in a BOOK?
Mr. Moore, as another fan of your surveys, I would be interested in some slightly more obscure repertoire. I don't know how well these works align with your taste, but I would greatly appreciate more surveys into the French repertoire, which deserves more interest from everyone, I think. I know you don't like Meyerbeer, but works like Thomas's Hamlet or Mignon, Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffman, or Auber's Fra Diavolo would be very interesting for me. I also think a deeper look into the Verismo operas would be a treat; Mascagni has many operas I enjoy other than Cav, and other pieces like Francesca da Rimini, La Wally, l'Arlesiana, and Fedora all strike me as being of great merit. Thanks for all of your great work! Noah Tunell Previous Message So my "Lohengrin" survey appears this evening and I am now working on "Tannhäuser", It has been suggested that I might like to do some Britten operas but that is not my bag, so maybe someone else would like to step up. This means I have cracked and returned to several operas for which I had previously designated one (or two) "Untouchable" recordings but I don't think I can face revisiting the trio of great Puccini operas in that category; I might, however, give Rossini's "Barber" a go...
