Thanks for that link, Alan; I am just listening now. Really, the handsome, dashing young Mehta was everywhere and did everything really well - I think even now he is under-rated despite his GOM status. What a cast, too; of course, Wunderlich is peerless - nobody touches his Belmonte. I have two reservations about it, one minor, one more germane: the fact that it is in mono - a pity but perfectly fine - and Corena's Osmin compared with the likes of Moll and Frick. I always found him vocally clumsy and dramatically hammy, and the low notes aren't really there; in fact, some are a bit of a disgrace and he shouldn't have essayed the role - although I am aware that not everyone shares my dislike. Otherwise, it's great.
