No apologies necessary, of course! You're right about the difficulties this work presents. I have heard most recorded performances, and sometimes they fail not in concept, but in recording. Sometimes just one soloist can ruin it for me, which is a shame when so many are involved (Blicket auf is one of my tests...) Sometimes it all works but the recording lets it down. Just received Bychkov yesterday. ... Good luck!

My apologies,Terence ....
It is happening, currently up to twenty thousand words, although about half of them seem to be listing all the soloists and choirs for this work !
The challenge has been how to succinctly survey around a hundred different recordings of a work that has so many different essential components from eight essential soloists, organ, recording quality, interpretation, choirs and orchestra ..... but I am getting there, so do bear with me !

Hello Mr Denham
Last year you mentioned a survey of Mahler 8. I am anxiously awaiting it, but realize that of late, there has been even more: Bychkov, Sado, Makela ....
