Thanks, Michael; furthermore, it also has one of my favourite singers, Valerie Masterson and a host of excellent French singers in the smaller roles. Unfortunately, however, it is available only as an LP and DVD and as you are aware, in my surveys I have to be selective and concentrate on the more widely available and studio recordings - but I have to say that recording does indeed look interesting.

Thanks for your interesting Karajan review. I note that you haven't included the extraordinary live 1978 recording that includes Jon Vickers, Gwyneth Jones, Christa Ludwig and Nicolai Ghiaurov in the cast.
