Booklet notes for CPO
Posted by paul corfield godfrey on November 2, 2022, 3:00 pm
I have today received a communication from Dr van der Hoogen regarding my observations on his booklet notes for the recent CPO issue of Wolf orchestral songs:
Dear Sir, far from any comment on your cpo review (Wolf Lieder - Penthesilea) please let me correct two points: There has been no gap in my writing notes for this label during the last 30 years - recently I wrote essays on Bruch, Chatschaturjan, Schreker, Gassmann, Henri Bertini amongst others (average 4 notes p.a.); and I am not a professor. Kind regards, E van den Hoogen
I am happy to note his correct academic status; and I did not intend to imply that he had at any time ceased to furnish lengthy essays for the cpo label, merely that I had not encountered any such for a long time. Certainly a decade or so ago he seemed to provide a great many more booklet notes than four a year; or maybe these were just the cpo issues that I encountered.
