Malcolm Williamson

The ‘Déjà Review’ of the Chandos Malcolm Williamson Orchestral Music Volume I makes me wonder yet again what happened to the series. Volume 2 followed a year later but there were no more. I wonder why? Were sales so poor that the series was abandoned? There’s so much more Williamson that I don’t think has ever been recorded including at least four symphonies and much other orchestral music, not to mention the operas and vocal works. I for one would love to hear more of his music.

I am by no means an expert on Williamson by my understanding is in the late ‘70s he made the decision to leave his publisher Josef Weinberger to set up a new publishing company with Simon Campion. This did not go well. Much of his music was not released until the death of Campion in 2023.
