Hi All
I know some of you are open to contemporary works written for brass band. The conductor of Sydney’s Willoughby Band, Dominic Longhurst, posted a video on YouTube of the band’s performance of their own choice selection from the Australian National Brass Band Championships that were held over the Easter long weekend in Brisbane. Mr Longhurst was the composer of the piece, and it is well worth a listen, and not just for the La Mer quotations and transmogrifications in the final section. Test pieces are designed to be virtuosic and this one is no exception, but it is much more than a showpiece.
(Thanks, Tim; we are wary of posting YouTube links for copyright reasons so are asking readers to look up the link you provided for themselves - Ralph Moore)
