(BTW this post is not all focused on you but to most of this thread and some of the vibe/comments)
I also am not about the re invent the past and say the prior 36 years of Nova history was much more than Richard Rider...a hero we called Nova. There were certain lulls, like most of the 80s, but he was Nova and he was the mythos. Despite a few minor forays into larger storylines, Rich was the guy. Throughout Rich's history they tried a few times to warm us to the idea of a new Nova, and we usually repulsed and let marvel know we loved Rich.
I'm going to be honest, I'm not a huge diehard fan of the "Nova Corps" or the concept of a "Nova" as they've been executed in comics (aside from the brief DnA stuff circa War of Kings). Frankly, the Nova Corps is a half hacked concept marvel has botched more often than nailed. Nova is not really that original as a concept either. But the stories made it all real. Wolfman made it real, which continued with FabNic and Giffen and DnA. The growth made Rich real. So unfortunately, I'm a Rich Rider fan. He's my Nova . That's who I really bleed for.
Rich is my favorite character. As we all know, he's on the ropes still after nearly five years now. In the whole matter, I ask myself what can I do. "What can I do to help bring Rich back" should, at least in my humble opinion, be a sentiment of a true Richard Rider fan. Yet, I don't speak for everybody or all Rider fans. But just blindly assuming he will be brought back when marvel "so fancies" is not an accurate statement. I was a history major , and history just tells us that is plum not always true.
Sales matter.
Microeconomics, despite me once flunking the course in college, is a relatively simple matter. If consumer buys product (A) he tells the Company who makes product (A) to make more. Supply and demand. The simplicity is, if there is no demand for a Non-Richard Rider Nova Book (meaning folks don't buy it) , Marvel will not produce a Non-Richard Rider book. (Despite what guys like Tom Brevoort say) Very simply..and the notion is far from "ridiculous". Motivated consumer bases often rally together to send corporations messages about what goods they do want or don't want. It's not some evil or subversive tactic. Its exercising your god given right as a free market consumer. When done right, when a base is motivated , the tactic can work.
I like comics. I'm a certified marvel head. I miss following new marvel comics. Some of the stuff even looks pretty decent out there, but I refuse to allow Marvel to take away my favorite character. Weaver is a tremendous talent. It stinks to let good folks get caught up in this, and many have. But the fact remains, I refuse to let Rich get left behind. I ask myself "what can I do to effect change," and not buying marvel and being vocal in many ways is what I've come too...its my answer after being so frustrated with the other paths. Maybe it's time for some other stuff. I'm not sure...but I'm not about to cave neigh five years in to this.
And five years at this point, and I become wholeheartedly irrational. I think we Rider fans deserve to be a bit irrational after all , don't we?
To wrap this up, we all have a lot of tactics and opinions. None of them are ridiculous.
I think continuing to support Marvel and Marvel's half baked Nova concepts is a wrong move...but I don't' see it as ridiculous or idiotic. I just disagree with the tactic. I actually hope at least somebody reads the crud who can tell us what a shit sandwich it is. (Sorry Weaver you probably deserve better)
Richard Rider is still on the ropes, still cast off like a bad cough. It's been nearly half a decade since he was snuffed out. I miss him. Rider, a man called Nova, needs people fighting for him in the dirt, not folks who are apathetic or feel they are above the fray, but worse he doesn't really need us all fighting with each other. I love our community and sites like NPP and NMB. These have been great killer sites that have galvanized Rich Rider and his fans. I don't mean to lecture the folks who have done so much for Rich , that's not my goal here. But Rich's past and (hopefully) his future revolve around us being together.

: Well as a 47 going 48 year soon I really don't
: have any time or patience for idiots at the
: best of time; end of day, every one to their
: own. Its just really silly the way CBN Nova
: fans have handled the matter, acting like
: school kids with silly acronyms, repetitive
: negative reviews and calling everyone anti
: Rich for supporting anyone else wearing the
: bucket-hat; christ Marv Wolfman created
: alternate Novas back in What if! Anyway this
: is the last time this subject gets mentioned
: by me - this is NMB; here you're welcome to
: talk about any Nova you like - Rich, Sam,
: Awen, Nova.0.0 Robert Rider, even my own
: Nova619 Rich! So from June, consider a new
: start as we head into Secret Wars!

: I wouldn't sweat it. Those sorts of people
: are never going to be happy. If Awen ends
: up being a cool character I'll pick her up.
: I collected Sam's book for quite a while. I
: gave it my best shot. I stopped because I
: wasn't digging it not because of some sort
: of boycott. If you like something read it
: and if you don't like it then don't read it.
: Buying or not buying comic books for
: political reasons is silly. Life is too
: short for that.
:
: Personally I'd prefer Rich back, but if
: that's not going to happen I'd just like
: some good Nova stories. Sam's stuff is so
: divorced from the legacy that if barely
: feels like I'm reading Nova. That coupled
: with it clearly being a book targeted at
: preteens made me lose interest. If Anwen or
: Rael can do a better job as a protagonist
: than I'll support them.
:
: At least they recognize the Nova concept is
: worth keeping around. When was the last time
: Quasar or the Quantum Bands appeared?
: Honest question, because last time I
: remember seeing that stuff was the DnA era.

: I am able to get in now. Probably something

: I am helping to keep dirt on Richard. I have
: not been named. But I do know that I posted

: I'm sorry to hear that you've been locked
: out

: whoever which version they follow- are

: I will be picking up the Nova/Secret Wars

: guess I am considered a fake Nova fan. Of

: Hey Guys - I had checked the link to the
: "site" and it does work. As far as
: NMB goes, both me and Nova64 have said it
: before several times; if anyone wants to
: comment on current "Nova/s" as
: well as talk about Nova Prime, without
: having to worry about being singled out
: which is sadly something CBN choose to do
: with Nova fans at that forum, just feel free
: to post anytime. I seriously do not like the
: attitude that they've taken - what fans
: choose to buy and support is their own

: Thanks for the update. Don't know what
